Bluewater Wind Signs First U.S. Agreement to Provide Offshore Wind Power

Delaware

Offshore Wind Can Bring Jobs And Price Protection To Delaware

NRG Bluewater Wind’s proposed offshore wind park is the only way to produce significant amounts of clean, reliable electricity for Delaware, from Delaware. An offshore wind park for Delaware will create jobs and provide the long-term price stability that Delaware has lost since the deregulation of electricity rates. As the rush is on around the country for energy sources that help protect against climate change, a wind park in Delaware, for Delaware is the only way for the First State to be independent from having to rely upon other states for clean, affordable energy.

This project will provide Delmarva Power’s residential and small business customers with approximately 12.5% of the energy they use from clean, renewable, stable-priced wind power. While gas and coal prices continue to rise unpredictably, the wind park will guarantee stable prices for 25 years. In addition, electricity generated by fossil fuels will be subject to further price increases due to global warming-related taxes on carbon emissions. On the other hand, our fuel – wind – will always be free.

Delaware's Offshore Wind Park

The Offshore Wind Park will provide the amount of energy used by as many as 100,000 households in the state, and meets the state's goals for stable-priced, clean energy. The wind park will provide electricity for Delaware without contributing to the growing threat of global warming and without contributing any air and water pollution (read more).

The wind turbines are to be located over 13 statute (highway) miles offshore. At that distance, the turbines will be difficult to see. On typical hazy summer days, the wind park will probably not be visible at all. See technically accurate Wind Park Visualizations here.

NRG Bluewater Wind will continue to meet with interested parties and individuals to make sure that all questions and concerns are fully addressed. In addition, Federal and state officials will carefully study the Offshore Wind Park proposal to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations. We welcome and encourage public participation in this comprehensive review process. What are the next steps in the process? Take a look at the project timeline.
