Wind Park Visualizations

In order to provide Delaware residents with as much information as possible about the proposed Delaware Offshore Wind Park, Bluewater Wind commissioned technically accurate, realistic visualizations of what the wind park will look like from familiar viewpoints along the shore. Read more about how the visualizations are created.

The most accurate way to view the visualizations is to see the full-size, 4 1/16" x 32 2/16" images that have been professionally printed at photograph quality. NRG Bluewater Wind presents these original images at public events located around the State of Delaware, so you can see them directly yourself. View the NRG Bluewater Wind public outreach event schedule.

To make special arrangements to see the printed visualizations in person, or for additional information, please contact NRG Bluewater Wind.

In order to make the visualizations as widely available as possible, we created this new means of viewing them on-line. Using the maps below, click on viewpoints of interest to see the visualizations and to read further instructions.

These visualizations use computer imagery technology to combine actual photographs taken from specific viewpoints with computer generated wind turbines, so as to accurately portray how the proposed wind park will look. The special software used to create the visualizations, called WindFarm®, was developed by ReSoft Ltd specifically for the purpose of creating accurate visualizations. This process takes into account the distance between the viewpoint and the turbine (as measured using GPS), the exact dimensions of the turbine, the curvature of the earth, the equivalent (perceived) focal length of the human eye and field of view, the height of the camera/viewer, and the position of the sun when the picture was taken. The photographs used to make these visualizations were taken on typical but generally clear days during the Fall of 2006. Summer haze, fog, and precipitation will further limit the view of the wind park, often to considerably less than what is presented in these visualizations. These visualizations were created by RPS Group, the largest environmental and engineering consultancy in Europe. RPS Group has extensive experience creating realistic visualizations in Europe.

The visualizations were designed to be viewed as 4 1/16" x 32 2/16" printed pictures that are professionally printed at photograph quality. This website strives to replicate these special prints as accurately as possible on computer monitors, and NRG Bluewater Wind is committed to making the printed versions widely available as well.

The images were designed to be viewed at the specified sizes, resolutions and viewing distances, and portray what would be seen with the naked eye. Note that "zooming-in" on the images is not the equivalent of viewing the wind turbines with binoculars. Zooming-in on an electronic image simply increases the image size while reducing resolution, and provides no additional image information (as would be obtained using binoculars, for example.)
